What is the Virtual Challenge?

Teams of 1-5 youth in grades 6-12 worked together to create their very own Augmented Reality App! Exploring the DIVE4Ag apps centered around Horses, Dairy, Aquaculture (growing oysters in the water), Agroecology (biodiversity and urban farms), and Sagebrush rangelands, teams selected one and built an extension app. No coding is required to create these apps, and all interests are welcome! Teams then presented their apps during a Virtual Challenge Presentation on either March 24, or March 25, 2023. More information can be found in the section below.

Youth participants earned $250 for successfully completing the challenge, and adult Group Leaders earned $400 for guiding a team through the challenge!

Participants will need access to an Android Phone, Apple phone, or iPad.

No! Because this is a fully virtual challenge, all youth are welcome to participate, regardless of location. Please note: all times and dates are listed in PST.

Yes! If you can work together to create your challenge app while living apart, you can absolutely be on a team together.

The program is designed in phases:

  • February 3 - February 24: Team registration 
    • This is completed by Group Leader and Parents
  • February 27 - March 10: LEARNING PHASE
    • Explore the apps and associated lesson plans. 
    • Attend Ag Science Cafe Webinars with our experts and Q&As with Timelooper, our Software partner.
    • Learn how to use the software to create your challenge content
  • March 11-March 23: CREATION PHASE
    • Teams work together to create content for their app
  • March 24 & 25: VIRTUAL CHALLENGE TEAM PRESENTATIONS

Challenge Presentations will happen on Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25. The exact date will be determined by the time slot chosen by the Group Leader.

We are working through some technology challenges with Timelooper, our software company partner, to ensure presentations are available to view.

There is no coding involved in creating the app, just uploading or finding the information you want, and clicking a few buttons! The DIVE4Ag Challenge team is there to help every step along the way.

Group Leaders can earn $400 for guiding one team through the Challenge process with the possibility of more for guiding multiple teams. Youth participants can earn up to $250 for successfully completing the challenge and providing feedback.
